Iusto Foedere: Sample covenant (ArM5)

This entry is in English. Why? Well, because it derives from an idea in the Atlas Forums: the creation of a series of sample covenants for Ars Magica 5th edition. There is only one (Semita Errabunda) and it is not fully developed. The idea is that new troupes to the game might have problems coping with the MASSIVE amount of material, and feel overwhelmed. It is also fairly easy to have a Saga fail before it starts because the players cannot cope with all the covenant and saga decisions that they need to do before they start playing.

The idea behind this project, then, is to create a series of covenants that can act as a benchmark for your troupe’s covenant, or that can be used directly as a player character covenant.

I have decided to build the most basic covenant possible. No massive fortifications, no massive resources, fairly standard location in the middle of mundane society but near savage places… *THE* vanilla setting. As such I do not expect this to be an extremely interesting covenant with a lot of plot twists or anything like that, but it should be one that can be used almost anywhere and where all the adventures published for Ars Magica 5th edition are playable really easily.

I will build it with 800-900 build points. I will put it in a hill near a ford in Chestershire, since Heirs to Merlin is a 4th edition supplement and as such quasi-canonical (and written by the line editor) but not completely so. We will see what I come up with 🙂
